For herpes infection:

Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
If you are taking Zovirax (acyclovir capsules and tablets) to treat cold sores, chickenpox, shingles, or genital herpes, start Zovirax (acyclovir capsules and tablets) as soon as you can after your signs start. This medicine may not help if you start taking it too late.
